In recent times Nollywood has not been participating in the biggest movie award, but this time there is a plan on stepping out from the dark. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), has approved a twelve-man committee of Nollywood stakeholders, named the Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC), to pave the way for Nigerian film entries to be considered , ahead of the 2015 Oscars.
The twelve-man committee is to submit one Nollywood movie each year from 2015 for the Oscars. Members of the committee include- Chineze Anyaene, Ngozi Okafor, Olumide Amure, Ramsey Nouah, Kene Mkparu, Emeka Mba, Chioma Ude, Akin Salami, Mildred Okwo, Biola Alabi, Charles Novia and Shaibu Husseini. Chineze Anyaene, is the NOSC chairperson!
According to rules by the Academy,
members will consider submissions on 7 criteria which are – story,
direction, acting, cinematography, sound, music and universal theme.
Every Nollywood movie selected each year
will compete with movie from 85 other countries for the coveted Best
Foreign Language Film Award. The Academy will then pick a shortlist of 5
foreign language movies ahead of the ceremony.
