MERCURY RECORDS IN THE UK SIGNS D'BANJ

Mercury Records United Kingdom has signed popular Nigerian hiphop artiste, Dapo Oyebanjo aka Dbanj on its label.
Dbanj was listed on its website as one of its artistes.
Mercury Records is a record label operating as a standalone company in the UK and as part of the The Island Def Jam Music Group in the US; both are subsidiaries of Universal Music Group.
On the label’s website, Dbanj is introduced thus: “Dapo Daniel Oyebanjo (born in 1980 Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria),known commonly as, D’banj is a London-based Nigerian singer-songwriter and harmonica player. “Dapo” is a nickname for the Yoruba name “Ifedapo” (meaning “Love came together”)..”
Reports say the deal with Mercury Records will give Dbanj a wider global exposure after his pact with G.O.O.D Music, owned by American musician, Kanye West.
Other artistes on Mercury’s label include world renowned artistes such as Elton John, Jay-Z, Justin Beiber, Kanye West, Ludacris, Mariah Carey, Ne-Yo, Paul McCartney, Rick Ross, Rihanna, U2 and Bon Jovi.
Dbanj is expected to release his smash hit ‘Oliver twist’ on May 14.
Mercury Records says, “Oliver Twist’ by D’Banj is going to be Scott Mills’ ‘Big Thing’ all this week on Radio 1. Scott Mills is covering for Chris Moyles on his slot this week, so you’ll be able to hear the track every morning on the Breakfast Show all this week.
“If you haven’t yet heard the track, watch the video featuring cameos from a number of artists including D’Banj’s G.O.O.D Music label boss, none other than Kanye West.”
In any case, D’banj remains for all intents and purposes, a member of the G.O.O.D Music family, but will be represented by Mercury Records UK/Island Def Jam UK in the UK.
On his website, http://www.dbanjofficial.com/, Mercury Records appears boldly on the bottom right corner.
Dbanj recently parted ways with his longtime business partner and cofounder of Mo’Hits Records, Michael Collins aka Don Jazzy, over issues about money, records catalogue and ownership of the label.
There are moves by the lawyer of their label to sort out the ownership issue so that Mo’Hits can finally be rested and the rift ended.
